Chris Pickering is an emerging composer based in Melbourne, Australia. He was raised and has musical roots in on Gidhabal country in regional Queensland, before going on to study jazz and contemporary music at the Queensland Conservatorium in Brisbane. He then spent time in bands and as a singer-songwriter, including five years based overseas in Nashville, Tennessee. He moved back to Australia in 2014 and has since gone on to post-graduate study in composition at the University of Melbourne, where he is a current PhD candidate. His pieces have been premiered and performed by Flinders Quartet, Ensemble 3, Gemma Turvey, Percy Grainger Youth Orchestra, Zelman Symphony Orchestra, and others, and workshopped by Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and Kronos Quartet.
