Jodi Rose : Associate Artist

Tuning in to the voice of the bridge opens a space for reflection, reverie and contemplation. Perhaps the cables are also giant receivers, collecting all kinds of signals. We hear creaks and sighs of tension in the architecture, connecting bridges around the world through vibrations echoing in their cables.

Jodi Rose is the creative director and composer of Singing Bridges, an urban sonic sculpture playing the cables of bridges as musical instruments on a global scale. Rose explores poetic/acoustic resonances of bridges through radiant vibrations and multidisciplinary cultural interventions. The Global Bridge Symphony is an evolving composition where every bridge is connected by sound, like an Acoustic Indra's Net. Amplifying vibrations in the cables and transmission of data from their structures, connects audiences and bridges in a shared listening experience.

Her compositions and artistic research connect the liminal spaces of cultural acoustics, media arts & technology with architecture, urbanism and speculative futurism through an evolving approach that combines machine AI collaboration, experimental auto-ethnography and sonic psychogeography.

Rose holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Hons) in Sculpture, Performance & Installation from Sydney College of the Arts (1997) and International Master of Fine Arts (Artistic Research) in Art, Culture & Technology from Trondheim Art Academy, Faculty of Architecture & Design, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (2022).

Rose's work has received artistic research funding from APRA AMCOS Art Music Fund; Research and Development supported by Australia Council for the Arts New Media Arts; ABC Radio National; ANAT Australian Network for Art & Technology; Arts Victoria Music for the Future.

Signal on the Silver Bridge

Composition based on recording the vibrations in the structure of bridges from around the world. A sonic sculpture creating a collective space for reflection as you pass through the bell tower into the Church of our Lady. Contemplating the bridge from the everyday to eternity.

Commissioned by Bjørnar Habbestad for Only Connect NyMusikk Festival, "Come What May'' 2021 Edition in Trondheim.

Listen to the generative music stream "Silver Bridge" made in collaboration with Mubert AI, available as an NFT on Rarible.

Musique du Pont Volant pays homage to the bridge as cathedral and urban musical instrument. At times the concrete dominates with traffic and metallic clangs singing in a dark cacophony, while the sounds of construction dissolve into a transcendent abstract soundscape swirling through the composition in homage to the flying singing bridge of imagination. Commissioned by City Sonics, Mons, Belgium 2009.
