Anusha Yellapragada : Associate Artist
Anusha Yellapragada is an early-career composer with a practice
grounded heavily in music for art-music, screen media, and
multi-disciplinary collaboration. She is a Bespoke Artist with
Speak Percussion, and has had work featured on both the
Australian Art Music Playlist and the 1,000 Curious Ears playlist
(Wasteland) curated by Cameron Lam. She has crafted music for
chamber ensembles, games, film, dance, and theatre. Her work has
been performed by Syzygy Ensemble, WHACKollective, Ellipsis Trio,
and Monash University Percussion Ensemble.
Despite working across different mediums, Anusha's compositional
practice routinely involves close collaboration with musicians to
craft engaging sonic worlds. Her compositions often blur the
barrier between music and sound design, with the objective of
creating highly immersive audio experiences - pieces that
resonate as strongly in a games/film context as they do in the
concert hall. Furthermore, she wishes to weave elements of
Carnatic (South Indian Classical) music into her music craft.
With collaboration forming a core element of her practice, Anusha
seeks to work with a diverse range of artists to bring exciting
narratives to life. Additionally, with a background in
immunological research, she is excited to work with researchers
and use art to engage audiences with science. Anusha is eager to
encourage dialogue around issues like the climate crisis which
has led her to work on projects such as We The Ocean (theatre)
and Wasteland (dance). Anusha wishes to continue developing her
practice through boundary-pushing, narrative-based, music and
multidisciplinary art.
