SYDNEY SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

Toru Takemitsu, who died in 1996, was the Japanese composer of recent times most highly regarded in international music. The Sydney Symphony Orchestra paid a sustained tribute to his restrained, poetic, glinting art in its latest 20th-century program, appropriately employing a Japanese conductor, Hiroyuki Iwaki, to direct the proceedings.
