Program note: Peter Myers' "Renovatus"

  • © Peter Myers
  • Source: Produced for and provided by Melbourne Composer's League

Peter Myers studied and taught at Latrobe University in the 1980s. In 1989,
he undertook private studies in composition with Professor Eugene Kurtz in
the USA. In 2006, he completed a Doctorate in Composition at Monash
University under the supervision of Dr Thomas Reiner. Myer’s works have
been performed and broadcast in Australia, Hong Kong, the United States
and Japan.

Renovatus is published by Red House Editions in MICROS: Eleven String
Quartets from Australia and Norway. Renovatus is developed from two
complementary gestures: the first is a rising motive; and the second is a
rhythmically regular motive that is elaborately decorated with mordents and
grace notes. Renovatus (Latin) means to reinvigorate, to renew.
