Brendan Colbert
Brendan Colbert was born in Ballarat, Victoria, in 1956. After a period of piano studies and work with progressive-rock bands as keyboard player and songwriter, he began private composition studies in the mid 1980's, first with Brenton Broadstock and later with Riccardo Formosa. His output comprises a substantial number of works, including many commissioned or premiered by quality performers, which have been performed or broadcast around Australia and in Europe and the USA.
Recent pcrformances include Akkord I (Cory Smythe. piano - New York), Solitary (Linda Wetherill, bass flute - New York), Akkord II (Gisbcrt Wally, guitar - Prato [Italy). and Clair-Obscur (Joshua Rubin, Bb clarinet - New York). Forthcoming perrormances include the premieres of Alter(n)ations (piano, harpsichord and vibes - Contemporary Keyboard Society, Montreal), Sphinx (10 players - Elision), and PNEUma.
