Faculty of Music UiTM and klpac proudly present the 6th Composers Concert Series 2015 in collaboration of the Society of Contemporary Malaysian Composers.
This year special guests are Mireia Frutos (piano, Spain) and Ming-Yun (cello, South Korea/Germany).
Presenting lecturers and students in New Music Ensemble, Voices performing new contemporary works by composition students and works by other composers.
These concerts showcase the pool of talent at the Faculty of Music displaying both composition and performance prowess. Also this year we are very fortunate to have guest performers Mireia Frutos (Spain), Min-yung (South Korea), collaboration with Birmingham Conservatoire UK, our own Faculty of Music staff, senior lecturers, creative scholar and lecturers Dr Nathan Fischer (USA), Max Riefer (Germany), Dr. Masashi Kishimoto (Japan), Munir Mahzair and Juwairiyah Zakaria. Directed by Max Riefer, this series promises the premieres of many new works by students composers, young composers and more established composers such as Michael Smetanin (guest composer, Australia), Dr Tazul Tajuddin (Faculty), Dr Katia Tiutiunnik (Faculty of Music/Australia), Dr Valerie Ross (Faculty), Adam Masumi (Faculty), Dr Aaron Travers (USA), Sayyid Shafiee, Wan Azlan among others ably performed by lectures and students alike. The diversity of forms, styles and genres promises a highly exciting programme of creative explorations throughout this season of music making.
This concert series is the 5th for Faculty of Music UiTM to promote and nurture new composition works by students and other composers in Malaysia. It is also to nurture student performers to perform composer new works. This will encourage new works by composers and will add and broaden the music cultural scene.
It is to reflect the diversity of talent and musical style of Malaysian composers and to provide and open a platform for these new works to be performed. It gives an alternative of other composer’s artistic expression to the usual popular music scene in Malaysia. This is also a unique opportunity to promote contemporary by young students and new composers, as well as established one to our local audience.
Creation of new works needs continuity and culture needs these works in order not to become stagnant. This composer concert series will hopefully provide this gap and in the future will establish itself to become platform for new works by students and young Malaysian composers.
