Event Details
Award-winning saxophonist and composer Andrew Robson presents his new song-cycle A Day at the Fair, a work based on twelve English folksongs and performed by five of Australia’s most celebrated jazz musicians. Robson’s work is based on 12 recordings of Lincolnshire folksinger Joseph Taylor that were made by Percy Grainger during the early years of the 20th century. A visionary work anchored in both folk and jazz traditions, A Day at the Fair is a celebration of the legacies of both Taylor and Grainger and breathes new life into these timeless melodies.
Andrew Robson – alto and baritone saxophones
James Greening – trombone and pocket trumpet
Alister Spence – piano and harmonium
Brett Hirst – double bass
Toby Hall – drums
