RISING STAR
Bonnie Stewart’s CrissCross (Simon Ferenci – trumpet, Peter Farrar – alto saxophone, Luke Sweeting – piano, Thomas Botting – double bass, Bonnie Stewart – drums)
Young Irish drummer/composer Bonnie Stewart uses Thelonious Monk's angular melodies and jagged rhythms as inspiration - fusing Monk's quirky compositions with her own melodic, rock-influenced style, the band brings new dimensions to Monk's music. This’ll be Bonnie’s debut Jazzgroove gig as leader- come make some noise!
9.30pm – TARGETED PERFORMERS SERIES
NeoBop Quintet (Ken Allars - trumpet, Peter Farrar - alto saxophone, Matt Smith - guitar, Simon Barker - drums, Abel Cross - bass / tunes)
This outstanding quintet breathes new life in to the well-worn harmonic structures and song forms of bebop with their idiosyncratic virtuosity and a contemporary focus on openness and interaction. Catch some of Sydney's most unique instrumental voices. "...the Neo-Bop Quintet played divinely in a set that reached the sublime.” Extempore
Featured non-Australian music: Bonnie Stewart
