Event Details

Guitar guru Guy Strazz and brilliant pianist Matt McMahon reunite following their previously Australian Indie Recording nomination ”2@1” and the Jazz APRA award for “Mandela”. They are joined by bassist Craig Scott and drummer Dave Goodman who have graced the stages with musicians such Joe Henderson, Vince Jones, Joe Lovano, and James Morrison, and Mark Isaacs.

The Acoustic Wonderland Band (AWB) continues the subtle melding of jazz with Afro-Brazilian and Indian classical music; an approach that has seen leader Guy Strazz receive an Indie Acoustic Project nomination in the US for his CD “Calcutta Express”(underscore Records) and “CD of the Week” on the ABC’s The Planet for “Eastern Blues” (Rufus).

There are explorations of seemingly simple harmonies leaning towards folk-rock music in new tunes such as the emotive Taj Mahal (a duet with pianist McMahon), an Indian-influenced reworking of Miles Davis’ “All Blues” as well as the fire and joy of tunes such as Afro Bouban, and the Riddle – a milestone composition in Australian acoustic jazz fusion (ABC Jazz). Join the exciting Acoustic Wonderland Band for their Blue Mountains debut and be part of this fantastic musical journey!

“So completely are the component parts integrated, providing the players with unique rhythmic and melodic fields upon which to unleash their improvising skills”. John Shand, Sydney Morning Herald

“Guy is one of my favourite Indo-jazz guitarists” Niranjan Jhaveri, USA Down Beat, and Director of Jazz India.

Featured non-Australian music: Miles Davis, L. Cohen, Tania Maria
