Event Details
We think it makes perfect sense for two of Adelaide’s leading chamber ensembles to collaborate!
This eclectic program of music for voices and string quartet draws its inspiration from one of the central works, Ola Gjeilo’s setting of the poem Dark Night of the Soul by 16th century Spanish poet and Catholic mystic, St. John of the Cross.
The journey from darkness into light traverses the soaring counterpoint of Victoria, the ‘hair-raising’ harmonic world of 16th century Spaniard Carlo Gesualdo, the beautiful spaciousness of Mozart’s Ave Verum, the luminescent beauty of Koehne’s ‘closed world’, and the warm light of Tallis and Lauridsen.
And, we introduce two new works for chamber choir and string quartet to help grow this wonderful combination of instrumental and vocal forces.
Featured non-Australian music: Kjello, Gesualdo, Mozart, Lauridsen, Tallis, da Victoria
