Event Details

For those of you in Townsville, please join us this Sunday 25th July at 3pm for the free concert in Queens Gardens. We are thrilled to have five of our visiting musicians here to perform. They include acclaimed didgeridoo superstar William Barton, violinists Grace Clifford and Natsuko Yoshimoto, clarinettist Lloyd Van’t Hoff and viola player Imants Larsen. They will join local groups the Barrier Reef Orchestra and the 1RAR Band for two hours of stellar music in the park.

The free Australian Festival of Chamber Music (AFCM) Queens Gardens Concert, presented by Townsville City Council and the AFCM, is part of this year’s North Australian Festival of Arts.

Our Executive Director, Ricardo Peach is excited with the line-up:

“We are so happy to be able to hold this concert with a program as diverse as it is entertaining, including the ravishing Meditation from Thaïs for solo violin and orchestra to be performed by Grace Clifford and the Barrier Reef Orchestra. We also have the hauntingly beautiful, slow movement from the Mozart clarinet concerto played by Lloyd Van't Hoff, whilst William Barton will perform some of his own compositions with the Barrier Reef Orchestra and 1RAR," he said.

“We can't forget Brisbane based couple, Natsuko Yoshimoto and Imants Larsens who will perform Martinů’s Duo No. 1 for Violin and Viola, Three Madrigals. Add in some popular songs from the Barrier Reef Orchestra and 1RAR and you will be tapping your toes to the music.”
