Event Details

Guitar Trek’s Bradley Kunda and soprano Rebecca MacCallion explore the beauty of the classical guitar as an instrument for accompanying the voice. Set in the Gallery’s Grand Courts, the evening will include Joaquin Rodrigo’s heartfelt Four love madrigals and Kunda’s brand new song cycle of Henry Lawson’s poems, inspired by the music of the great Australian poet’s time. Also featured is the pristine sound of flautist Laura van Rijn, performing Ravel’s Habanera and Kunda’s duet for flute and guitar, Spirit of the plains. Praised by Richard Gill AO as ‘beautifully written … true in every sense of the word’, Spirit of the plains is a homage to Sydney Long’s mythical art nouveau landscapes and will be presented at the Gallery for the first time, alongside the paintings that inspired the music.

The concert will be preceded by a reception with light refreshments and a private exhibition viewing at the Gallery. Doors open at 7pm. Concert commences at 8pm.

This is also the launch concert for the latest CD release by Tall Poppies, Amatorios: music for voice and guitar.
