Event Details

The remarkable and ever-evolving modern improvising jazz trio led by Alister Spence returns to Foundry616 for their first performance at the club in 2018.

“Art that allows us to be other than we are, even for a moment, is invaluable…this trio has learnt to defy gravity…Mesmerising.”  – Sydney Morning Herald

One of the most distinctive and spellbinding units in Australian contemporary music, the Alister Spence Trio has gained worldwide recognition for their ingenious compositions and magnetic live interplay. Together they create luminous soundscapes that are dark, lyrical, textured and endlessly surprising.

Formed in Sydney more than 20 years ago, this trio brings together three of the most innovative and experienced musicians in Australia. Their collective biographies and discographies are extensive, and individually include performances and recordings with diverse luminaries such as Dewey Redman, Brian Eno, Archie Roach, Jim O’Rourke, Paul Capsis and the Laughing Clowns.  ’Not Everything but Enough, the trio’s seventh release, was voted in the ‘Top 10 Jazz Albums for 2017’ in Japan’s Music Magazine, and  ‘Honorary Mention Best of 2017’ in New York City Jazz Record.

This is the trio’s seventh release. Alister Spence Trio: Live was nominated for the 2016 Australian Jazz Bell Awards for Best Small Jazz Group and an Art Music Award for Excellence in Jazz 2016.
