VARSITY
A Perth Festival Commission
The UK’s finest consort singers The Gesualdo Six perform a very special Perth Festival concert.
One of the most striking features of this Cambridge-based vocal group is the illusion they produce when performing of being one voice. Add to this the international reputation for their broad-ranging repertoire, moving with ease from Renaissance to contemporary music and you’ll see why this is a must-have ticket for choral music lovers.
In an exciting collaboration, The Gesualdo Six are joined by local choirs The Giovanni Consort and Voyces to perform choral masterpieces including Thomas Tallis’ 40-part motet Spem in Alium on the 450th anniversary of its composition.
The acoustic of Winthrop Hall will be transformed into a reverberant cathedral space as works from ancient masses are sung alongside compositions from virtuoso didgeridoo player William Barton and a new commission based on Beethoven’s Ode to Joy from local composer Cara Fesjian.
Featured non-Australian music: Tallis
