Event Details

Anoesis's sound is complex and spontaneous, at times powerful and intense, at times subtle and intimate, and laced with influence from modern jazz, hip-hop, fusion, and electronica. Throughout late 2018, the band recorded their debut full-length album 'The Hermit', which is scheduled for release in October 2019.

Anoesis formed in late 2016, a group of composer-improvisers who met through the music degree at the University of New South Wales. Since then, the group has recorded and released two singles, Hipnosis/Hipnonsense (2017) and Modernismus (2018), performed at some of Sydney's premiere jazz venues including Foundry 616, Lazybones Lounge, Cake Wines Cellar Door, and The Brass Monkey, and shared the stage with notable emerging artists including improvising trio Foshe, guitarist Michael Brady, and The Butchers. Anoesis recently returned from the 13th Bucharest International Jazz Competition (Romania) in May 2019, where the band placed second.

Alistair Johnston - Tenor Saxophone, Eitan Muir - Electric Guitar, Greg Stopic - Alto Saxophone, Tomas McKeever Ford - Double Bass

Sandy Evans Trio

Led by saxophonist Sandy Evans, this ensemble features leading Australian jazz musicians Brett Hirst (bass) and Toby Hall (drums). They explore intersections between diverse expressive and musical concepts in a contemporary jazz context. Prepare to be awestruck with modern mastery, soaring saxophone lines and transcendental rhythms.
