Event Details
Jenny Lu (piano) and James Littlewood (Principal bass trombone, TSO) present an evening of evocative contemporary chamber music, their unique pairing returns to Tempo Rubato on Friday 18 December 2026 at 8:00 pm.
Piano and bass trombone may not be the most familiar chamber music duo, but the combination offers a distinctive world of colour, texture and expression that the chamber world has been missing out on. For Melbourne pianist Jenny Lu and Hobart-based bass trombonist James Littlewood, it has become the foundation of an ongoing musical partnership, one that crosses the Bass Strait and explores music with a strong sense of narrative, place and connection.
Their latest program, At the Edge of Our New World, will be held at Tempo Rubato in Brunswick on Friday 18 December 2026. Examining the physical, social and emotional spaces that shape our lives, the concert brings together works by Biedenbender, Candillari, Gillingham, Janáček, Gary Wain and Stuart Greenbaum.
Through music that is intimate and expansive, the program traverses shimmering architectural forms and deep personal reflections on memory, belonging and human resilience and connection.
