Event Details

"New Art Music"... "Business"? A foreign concept to many, but not to all.

The panelists are;

Lyle Chan (moderator) – Creative consultant / Composer
Louis Garrick – Sydney Chamber Opera
David Sidebottom - Synergy/Taikoz
Jo Kee - SIMA, Cockatoo Calling
Andrew Batt-Rawden – Chronology Arts, Aurora Festival, Composer
Damien Ricketson - Ensemble Offspring, Composer

This forum takes two completely diametrically opposed concepts and brings them together to look at contemporary models for sustaining a business within "new art music". Key foci for this panel discussion include "What is a sustainable business?", "can we survive without funding?", as well as diversified sources of income, new channels, new efficiencies (and inefficiencies) that need to be dealt with.

We recommend checking out Music Business published by Omnibus Press by Shane Simpson and Jules Munroe as a starting text if you want to get seriously into the fold!

Come along if you're a muso with an inner entrepreneur, or an entrepreneur with an ear for music, or a student wanting to get in touch with future possibilities.

If you have a business solution for this wily, difficult niche sector and would like to present it in a pecha-kucha style presentation (short and sweet with interesting pics), email director@auroranewmusic.com.au with your idea! This is an ideal forum to get feedback, partners, inspiration, contacts and a few tips and tricks.
