Event Details

Bassist Simon Starr returns for a brief visit from Israel, to reconvene his all-starr AJME project band. The AJME was formed around the idea that, in its breathtaking diversity, Jewish music can be revitalised through fusions with other genres of music, different compositional forms and the inclusion of improvisation, which is the lifeblood of musical creativity. By funnelling Jewish migratory paths through a contemporary musical prism, the AJME hopes both to create for itself a repertoire that will make a lasting contribution to the bodies of both Jazz and Jewish musics, and also to encourage more people to engage with this tradition. The AJME will perform material from their debut CD Pazit (on JazzHead) last year, unrecorded material that has been road-tested in concerts throughout Israel, and some exciting new material. The current personnel are Anton Delecca (saxophones, clarinet), Eamon McNelis (trumpet), Adam Starr (guitar), Scott Griffiths – piano Simon Starr – bass and Danny Farrugia – drums.
