Event Details

The Australian World Orchestra’s 2021 performance season brings a full orchestra of Australia’s finest musicians to City Recital Hall for the world premiere of their 10th birthday commission by Australian composer Paul Dean conducted by AWO Chief Conductor Alexander Briger AO.

They are thrilled to bring together Australian musicians from all over the country to once again perform for audiences and bring to life the unique experience of live orchestral performance.

Composer Paul Dean’s new work “Symphony” is Australian at its core, with a homage to the sounds of sunrise by the riverbank and the drama of an early morning Brisbane storm. Paul’s new piece may be Australian by birth, but its undeniably global nature is revealed as we gather together, watching and waiting for the beauty and new growth to spring into life.

Their 2021 concert program pays their respects to Beethoven who missed out on his 250th birthday celebrations in 2020, with the dramatic and sensitive Coriolan Overture. Schumann’s 2nd Symphony is one of the greatest, expressive, deeply emotional, moving and exciting works of the romantic era. It is arguably Schumann’s greatest symphonic work and it brings the AWO great pleasure to perform it alongside the new “Symphony” from Paul Dean who is one of Australia’s great living talents.
