Event Details

Tura New Music presents a workshop with Melbourne-based clarinetist and performance-maker Aviva Endean.

The workshop will focus on collective improvisation, sonic meditation, approaching open-form scores and performance provocations, and discussion around these activities. Musicians from all backgrounds and levels of experience with experimental music and improvisation are encouraged to apply. Bring your instrument or any sound-producing means and join in on listening and playing excercises and group-led activities.

All participants are invited to submit a proposal for an idea to be explored during the workshop (optional). This may take any form, for example a direction/concept for a structured improvisation or a graphic score, seeking mentorship on solo or ensemble improvisation or on a solo or group composition, or other ideas or pieces which actively involve the whole ensemble of workshop participants in some way. Creative, specific and/or unorthodox projects are also highly encouraged and participants are welcome to propose projects which deal with or relate to gender or identity. Proposals must be submitted in advance of the workshop by June 16th.

This workshop is open to women-identifying, trans, non-binary and gender non-conforming artists, and artists of other gender identities who feel that they have been silenced in social or musical contexts based on their gender identity or expression. If you feel uncertain as to whether your attendance would be welcomed, please feel free to contact Josten at josten@tura.com.au

Attendance is completely free, but RSVPs are essential. To RSVP, please contact Josten at josten@tura.com.au, and if you choose to send a proposal, please attach it as a .pdf and it will be forwarded to Aviva. The projects to be workshopped will be selected by Aviva herself. Please note that, depending on the number of proposals, all projects may not be able to be workshopped during the session.
