Event Details
Katie Zhukov moved from Sydney to Queensland only 18 months ago – her home is in Graceville, one of the more severely flood-affected suburbs of Brisbane. Katie and her nine-year old daughter, Maia, are currently living in temporary accommodation.
Over the last 23 years Katie has established a reputation in Australia as a fine performer, educator and researcher. She began her musical education at the Special Music School for Gifted Children in Kharkov, Ukraine, and came to Australia as a teenager. She continued her studies in the University of Western Australia, Elders Conservatorium, Adelaide, Juilliard School of Music, New York, and obtained her PhD from the University of New South Wales. Katie is currently researching teaching of sight-reading to pianists at the School of Music, University of Queensland.
The aim for this concert is to assist Katie in the replacement of her books and music, all completely lost in the floods, and perhaps, with a little toward the replacement of her 9 ft Steinway.
Featured non-Australian music: Poulenc, Ravel, Mendelssohn, Franck, Gottschalk, Granados
