Event Details
From its earliest days, the Australian Ballet has showcased aspiring choreographers, nurturing the breeding ground of ballet. Over the last decade, we’ve revived the tradition with the Bodytorque season, showcasing works by emerging talents, often from within our dancers’ ranks. In 2014, the ever-popular Bodytorque makes its Melbourne debut, and the theme to inspire our budding choreographers is “DNA”.
Mysterious and ubiquitous, secretive and powerful, the elegant molecule is the engine of life on this planet. Now, a new generation of choreographers have created works inspired by its enigmatic beauty. You’ll also get a sneak peek at the development phase of Corpus Callosum by Richard Cilli (Sydney Dance Company), which won our 50th Anniversary Ballet Project. Richard's brand-new work, with music by the Australian composer James Wade, takes its inspiration from the very structure of the human brain, pitting the force of reason against the power of creativity. Don’t miss this opportunity to see the next wave of dance unfold.
