Event Details

Drummer Allan Browne is joined by pianist/composer Paul Grabowsky for an impromptu duo exploration of original material from Six by Three and When Words Fail, the ARIA-winning CDs by the Paul Grabowsky Trio, which featured Browne and the late bass virtuoso Gary Costello.

Drummer/bandleader Allan Browne has reached his 70th birthday, and his stellar career has been acknowledged by a prestigious Don Bank Award, induction to the Australian Jazz Bell Award “Hall of Fame”, and an Order of Australia Medal last year. His credits include performances with some jazz greats such as Teddy Wilson, Phil Woods, Johnny Griffin, Milt Jackson, Jay McShann, Buddy Tate, Barney Kessel, Mal Waldron and Jimmy Witherspoon, while he performed at the 1993 Montreal Festival with his own original group, Onaje. A lung transplant enabled him to produce a series of albums over the past decade on the Jazzhead label that have won Bell Awards, and been critically acclaimed in Downbeat magazine. He has also produced a book of his poems, Conjuror (with an accompanying CD).
