Event Details

The watery world of coastal architecture swirls through music exploring Chancellor and Patrick’s McCraith House at Dromana, Flinders House by Wood Marsh, the Sydney Opera House and Andrea Palladio’s Venetian architecture.

There are selections from David Malouf’s latest comic opera, The Aspern Papers, based upon a story by Henry James. Set in Venice, the intertwining alleyways weave through the music, mirroring of the tangled mind of Henry Vayne who is trying to steal the letters of poet Jeffrey Aspern. The imposing Venetian architecture of Andrea Palladio brings grace to this riotous story.

The concert features an array of Melbourne’s top musicians including Deborah Kayser, Justine Anderson, Jerzy Kozlinski, Tristram Williams, Robert Schubert, Peter Neville and the Silo String Quartet with guest performer British virtuoso trombonist Barrie Webb.
