Event Details

Praised for their ‘auditory feast of musical works for string instruments and voice’ (UK Criticks May 2016), the exciting and vibrant blend of music, talent and scholarship of Camerata Academica of the Antipodes chamber orchestra and vocal ensemble returns to Sydney to celebrate the festive season with a programme* bursting with their signature blend of music drawn from across the centuries.

Experience the joyous celebration that is Corelli’s Christmas Concerto, be caught up in the pure excitement and flair of Vivaldi’s Concertos for 4 violins Op.3 and Revel in the beauty of music by Telemann and Purcell, works for vocal ensemble and strings from the Baroque and beyond.

The Camerata instrumentalists and singers will be joined by emerging baroque cello specialist Jemma Thrussell, returning from her studies in Bremen (Germany), to perform the thrilling La Folia of Corelli-Geminiani, together with the Camerata ensemble and director Dr Imogen Coward. This special festive performance features the instrumentalists and singers of the Camerata including Sydney-based musicians James Tarbotton (concertmaster Sydney Conservatorium Early Music Ensemble), Chris Porteous (violin), Laura Chung (violin), Amelia Tan (violin), Justin Lee (cello), and scholar-performer Taliesin Coward (violin/voice) who is the ensemble’s resident 19th century specialist.

The concert will also feature the music of local composer and pianist Leon Coward, whose Chopin-esque style has received international recognition, and whose recent work includes the filmscore of the internationally successful Canadian short-film 2BR02B: To Be or Naught to Be (dir. Marco Checa Garcia).
