Event Details

"An unconventional virtuoso of the acoustic bass guitar, Christopher Hale is a remarkably talented and versatile young bassist [and] an enormously gifted composer and arranger" — The Age

Hale’s subtle and powerful mastery of the six-string acoustic bass is characterised by a complex harmonic awareness (particularly his unique chordal approach), formidable rhythmic strength and heartfelt melodicism. Recently awarded the prestigious Freedman Fellowship for Jazz, Hale and his new group Sylvan Coda have been garnering ecstatic critical praise and have played to sell-out audiences since the launch of their album in late 2012. Convening a dynamic and cutting-edge group of close musical colleagues, Sylvan Coda reaches deep into Hale’s upbringing in Flamenco, jazz and rock music, and emerges as an album of exquisite lyricism, complex rhythmic cycles and compositional strength. Sylvan Coda live is an epic, widescreen vision: stirring melodies, soaring voices and the bold, progressive Flamenco dance of Johnny Tedesco.

Performers: Christopher Hale (six string semi-acoustic bass guitar) Gian Slater ( voice, palmas) Nathan Slater (nylon string guitar) Johnny Tedesco (percussion and dance) Julian Banks (tenor saxophone) Jacq Gawler (voice, percussion, palmas) Emma Gilmartin (voice, percussion, palmas) Ben Vanderwal (drums)
