The late night escape for the Festival, the Club program features a Western Australian Showcase presented in association with WAM and curated by Sam Gillies. The Club will also feature works from the ICMC program.

Ourobonic Plague [Nick Sweepah] was described by cult comic author Warren Ellis as  “…overcast, disorienting space drone coming from the inside of a broken DEFENDER arcade machine.” Ellis even put the track Spirits on one his podcasts. On the other hand, notorious web presence Blam Lord has described the Plague vibe as “…heavy headphone club death music for Cthulhu ravers…” With an arsenal consisting of laptop, midi keyboards, Kaoss pad, vocals and various synths, Ourobonic Plague has been carving out a niche for his sound since 2007. A string of self funded releases was followed by tapes, CD’s and vinyl through labels including Now… This!, Twice Removed, and Robot Elephant Records (UK). The last year has seen him land support slots for artists as wide ranging as producers Lapalux and oOoOO, to doom band Drowning Horse. It’s the intermingling of these worlds that has inspired Ourobonic Plague. It’s what formed the melding of droning synths and stuttering drums, and it’s what drives the intent to explore the things around the edges of the ether.

kučka  [Laura Jane Lowther] began as a solo bedroom project for vocalist and producer Laura Jane Lowther. By carefully piecing together found sounds, layering her vocals and experimenting, she created a combination of delicate, ambient sounds, industrial glitches and captivating grooves. More structured tracks formed, resulting in her self-titled debut EP, an eclectic mixtape with a unique textural avant-pop sound. Now kučka has gained a reputation in her hometown Perth, for her interesting live shows, recruiting Jake Steele (Injured Ninja) on analog synths, Katie Campbell (Catlips) on live electronic beats and impressive percussionist Rosie Taylor (playing gongs, chimes and scrap metal!) to accompany her haunting vocals and mixed up sampling. kučka has recently filmed a music video for Rewind, directed by accomplished WA filmmaker Julia Ngeow, with collaborations with Cosmo Gets on the horizon and, after recently being sampled by the New York artist A$AP Rocky, 2013 is set to be a huge year for her.

The West Australian Showcase is presented in association with WAM and supported by the State Government of Western Australia through the Contemporary Music Fund of the Department of Culture and the Arts.
