Event Details

Having recently released their exciting third album “Spark” to capacity audiences throughout Australia, the Daniel Susnjar Afro-Peruvian Jazz Group pushes forward with culturally diverse musical performances and workshops which openly welcome community participation and inclusion.

The Daniel Susnjar Afro-Peruvian Jazz Group is an award-winning 7 piece Western Australian ensemble which presents original compositions influenced by Afro-Peruvian rhythms, and fresh, unique arrangements of traditional Peruvian folk songs. Founded in Miami in 2011, and driven by Susnjar's extensive touring and research in Peru, USA and the Caribbean (culminating in a Doctoral drumming dissertation), the ensemble continually develops innovative ways to express artistic sensibilities from the Afro-Peruvian and Jazz musical traditions.

Results include multiple awards (2017 APRA/AMCOS Art Music Award, 2017 and 2016 WAMI awards, 2 x 2015 Australian Jazz Bell Awards, 2015 WAMI Jazz Song of the Year), the release of 3 full-length albums (“Su Su Nje”, “Moth to a Flame” and “Spark”), extensive touring throughout the USA and Australia, and collaborations with world class musicians including Grammy award-winning trumpeter Brian Lynch (Art Blakey), latin percussion legend Sammy Figueroa (Miles Davis) and Peruvian cajón icon Freddy "Huevito" Lobaton.
