Event Details

Vanishing Tekopia written for the David Chesworth Ensemble references ethnological musical ideas from various parts of the world. The title refers to a tiny south-sea island with its small population, that is vanishing beneath the ocean as global warming increases sea levels. However, Vanishing Tekopia could just as easily refer to other minority cultures throughout the world which are under threat due to environmental, political or economic pressures, such as the Hmong in Laos and China and the Sakuddai in Indonesia. In Vanishing Tekopia we play homage to these cultures as we draw on different musical techniques, ideas and performance energies found in various world musics and apply them in the composition and realisation of this new work.
