Having returned here after spending 2008 based in Berlin, younger guitarist Jon Delaney has formed a new group. Devised in part as a tribute to the music of Jeanne Lee and Ran Blake, this new trio collaboration featuring the original music from Delaney, new lyrics and vocals from Emma Gilmartin, and the bass playing and arrangements of Tom Lee. They also include a selection of standards from Blake/Lee's seminal 1960's recording 'The Newest Sound Around' (in new arrangements), as well as some seldom-heard gems from recent and not so recent past. The trio embraces a quiet but very lush, expansive aesthetic, with a warmth and genuine affection for the material, and a real commitment to lyricism in all its aspects.
