Event Details
ELISION’s three-year partnership with ANAM has become a meeting point between generations of performers who share a drive to explore new forms of musical expression.
This program begins with Milica Djordjević's Nalet, introducing a gripping and persevering energy as the ensemble pushes determinedly against an unseen resistance, delineative of Djordjević's struggle when composing this piece. A duet between clarinet and cello written by Liza Lim settles the atmosphere in an intimate intertwining of tone, register, and ambience. Xenakis puts a spin on the sound an orchestra can create in Jalons, each movement developing upon rhythmic construction and extended techniques to allude to what one considers to be "(orchestral) colour". A new work by Richard Barrett, written in his Codex style continues this exploration of sonic texture and density, featuring both ANAM and ELISION musicians.
This exciting collaboration blurs the boundaries between sound and silence, structure and spontaneity, and will be an intriguing listen for any lover of the avant-garde and contemporary music.
