After opening at the Adelaide Festival in March 1986, Jim Sharman's original production of Meale and Malouf’s opera was recorded by the ABC in 1987, with its original stars (baritone Geoffrey Chard and soprano Marilyn Richardson), cast and settings. This long-unseen recording the original broadcast is presented on the big screen to mark the 25th anniversary of the opera.
