In a programme of vivid and entertaining works, the KPO launches its 2016 season with the famous Symphonie fantastique by Hector Berlioz, a revolutionary symphony built around a sensational dramatic narrative. Richard Strauss's bold and engaging First Horn Concerto is the perfect vehicle for outstanding young soloist Alice Yang. With Colin Piper at the podium, the concert opens with a colourful brass fanfare by Paul Dukas and includes a lively, circus-inspired work, Roar!, by Tasmanian-based composer Maria Grenfell.
