Event Details

The Classical Twilight Concert Series presents international piano virtuoso Jovanni-Rey de Pedro.

Making his fourth Australian tour, prize-winning Filipino-American piano virtuoso Jovanni-Rey de Pedro has drawn on the rich and imaginative piano repertoire inspired by childhood and children’s songs from around the world for this recital.

Embracing a range of styles – from the more traditional to the jazz-inspired, the program will present some exciting new works alongside Mozart’s well-loved variations on a nursery theme.

Entitled: “Fantasy, Folklore, Fairytales: Five New Works for Solo Piano”, this appealing program will include:

Wolfgang Amadeus MOZART: 12 Variations on the French song “Ah, vous dirai je maman”
Christopher NORTON: excerpts from World Preludes
    Sonny CHUA: Byte Me
Daniel McFARLANE: AntiMelancolicus: A Fantasy Minuet with Apologies to Papa Bach
    Tom GEROU: Sonata No. 1
Jocelyn KOTCHIE: A Right Royal Flush

The program is a wonderful showcase for de Pedro’s multi-faceted pianism. Described by various European reviewers as a “performer of musical depth and exciting virtuosity” whose playing is both “powerful and poetic”, he will take us on a fascinating musical journey, exploring the kaleidoscope of pianistic colour and effect produced by these highly imaginative composers’ responses to the world of “fantasy, folklore and fairytales”.

Featured non-Australian music: Mozart, Christopher Norton, Tom Gerou
