An ongoing concert series directed by Lysistrata Chamber Collective dedicated exclusively to music composed by women, from past to present. A place for curious minds to listen to new music that shouldn't go unheard, discover new stories, reflect on what can yet be learnt from history and from stories that are still untold. ROOTS. Connecting folk music of the world "Folk music has a sort of bubbling-under quality. The stream runs through the cultural consciousness, and whether or not it's on the radio is not the issue. Folk music is always there." — Mary Travers (1936-2009) A program designed to travel through different cultures and explore the music inspired by its own roots - so to speak from the ground up. Folk music has always triggered curiosity and inspiration in classical music composers, and tonight we'll explore how women from different time periods and countries around the world were inspired by the cultures around them, the roots that both grounded and catapulted them to compose these one of a kind works. The energy of each one is unique and palpable. An evening to remember and reflect on the grounding power of music. There will also be a special selection of wines from EKHI, the first wine brand dedicated to French women winemakers.
