Event Details
"Friends of Farkwa" is a concert to raise funds towards sending students from Newcastle Grammar to Farkwa in 2012 to help out with this humanitarian project. In 2009, Newcastle Grammar entered into a partnership with World Vision where Grammar would raise funds for the construction of three boarding houses in Farkwa, Tanzania. See: http://www2.ngs.nsw.edu.au/web/ngs-farkwa.aspx The concert features Sally Walker (Lecturer in Flute, Newcastle Conservatorium of Music), Dr Jim Chapman (Senior Lecturer, Conservatorium of Music), Michael Power (Pianist, Newcastle Grammar School), the Newcastle Conservatorium World Music Ensemble (led by Jim Chapman), Marie Fox and Matthew Law (Flute Teachers Newcastle Conservatorium of Music) and members of the Newcastle Conservatorium of Music Flute Class. Jim Chapman's work Ndithanda le dawo (commissioned by Sally Walker for two flutes and two alto flutes written in an African style but with Western notation) shall be premiered at this event.
Featured non-Australian music: The World Music ensemble will play a programme of works from African countries
