Event Details

Dvořák and Smetana produced beautiful works full of Czech nationalistic fervour with their joyously infectious folk music themes. Martinu’s stirring Sonata will be featured alongside a new work written specially for Tamara Smolyar by Melbourne-based composer Paul Grabowsky. It highlights music sans frontières as it seamlessly connects the jazz and classical worlds. This is a programme of great colour and rich variety.

In 2015 Melbourne Recital Centre’s Local Heroes series shares the stories of our World War I heroes. This concert is in tribute to Vera Deakin, whose work as the founder of the Red Cross Australian Wounded and Missing Bureau in 1915 helped news of loved ones reach their families on the other side of the world during the turmoil of the First World War. To read the story, visit the Your WWI Local Hero tab above.
