Event Details

Gabriele Meirano is an Italian free jazz pianist currently residing in Shanghai, China. During a visit to Melbourne he will be collaborating with guitarist Robbie Melville, whom he has recently been working with in Shanghai. Gabriele’s project, Blue Koi Collective, spans several continents, fusing the cultural heritage and musical vocabulary of their individual personalities. It is music composed on-the-spot, without script or boundaries. The nature of the group can also fluctuate, allowing for visiting artists and new collaborations. Meirano and Melville will be joined by Monty Mackenzie (alto saxophone) and Dan Macdonald (drums).

CLEVERHORSE QUARTET
Briefly returning to Melbourne from Shanghai, Robbie Melville will be reuniting with members of Cleverhorse to play a set featuring songs from their album Goodnight, Mr. Monster as well as a number of new compositions. Cleverhorse is a five-piece ensemble who cite influences from ambient to avant garde, funk to folk, jazz to jam band and world music. Led by guitarist Robbie Melville, cleverhorse has a unique sound that draws upon jazz harmony, earthy cinematic sound collages, psychedelic grooves, free improvisation and minimalism. Joining Melville are Monty Mackenzie (alto saxophone), Luke Hodgson (bass) and Dan Macdonald (drums).
