Miles Merrill has combined poetry with theatre, experimental audio and hip-hop beats. Now he’s flinging words in a rapid-fire onslaught of versified emotion with Gai Bryant Quintet. This collaboration explores various ways of combining spoken word with jazz, ranging from structured arrangements to immediate interaction.
Miles has won many awards and is the founder/co-producer of Australian Poetry Slam delivering over 45 events across the country plus online, radio and television events.
This performance for the SIMA presents Miles with Sydney-based alto/soprano saxophonist Gai Bryant’s quintet, featuring the energy and creativity of trombonist Jeremy Borthwick, guitarist Jeremy Sawkins, award winning bassist Brendan Clarke, and drummer Paul Derricott. Their tunes range from contemporary grooves to eastern influenced tunes.
