Event Details
Gestures is a conceptual exploration of performed sound as ritual. The compositions of Gestures are designed around a symbolic interpretation of Newcastle and its surrounds. In Gestures, Newcastle is re-imagined as several concentric circles; ocean; bush; coal train network; outer suburbs; the bus network and inner city cafe and university culture. Through the consecration of sound, visual projection and movement, this work guides the audience through each circle, ultimately moving towards the center circle: the audience. Gestures will reflect on the individual’s relationship to the wider Newcastle environment and its complex history, class politics, ecology and diversity, ultimately resulting in a transformation in the minds of audience members
