Event Details

World premiere of this chamber opera by Christopher J Wilson and Chester Eagle. Four school friends meet after 40 years, share their journeys, have some laughs and think about how we give life its meaning. It is time to return to their old school, (fictional) Grantham Grange Grammar, for a reunion dinner. The opera takes place in the assembly hall during pre-dinner drinks. Gibble Gibble Gobble has a single act of about one hour with four singers and piano, sung in English and set in the present day. Christopher J Wilson's score is in the style of the French composers Debussy, Poulenc and Satie, whom some associate with the Impressionist art movement. It brings to life Chester Eagle's deeply philosophical libretto, as the four friends remember school days, share their stories and struggles, and chorus their conclusions about what it all means. The composer and librettist both have Bendigo connections. Christopher has lived in Bendigo for many years and Chester was born in Bendigo.

Performers: Tatiana: Rachel Buckley, soprano Therese: Janet Brown, mezzo-soprano Carlo: David Stephensen, tenor Sam: John Clancy, baritone School Captain: Alice Carpenter (speaking role) Accompanist: David Steed Percussionist: Alice Carpenter
