Event Details
Penny Quartet is a fresh interpretative voice on the Australian music scene. Its love of the classic string quartet repertoire is intertwined with an urge to explore less charted territory.
The Quartet’s passion and drive has led to numerous collaborations, recordings and performances across the country, and winning Melbourne Recital Centre’s 2018 Contemporary Masters Award.
What do Salvador Dalí, Leonardo da Vinci and Béla Bartók have in common? They are all said to have used the ‘golden ratio’, a special number that appears in the most beautiful works of art and music. The ratio can be found in many of Bartók’s pieces, including the visceral String Quartet No.4, featured in this concert. Joined by multi-talented performer and vocalist Georgie Darvidis, this shining hour of chamber music with Penny Quartet also includes the world premiere of a new work by local composer Julia Potter.
Program
Julia Potter - Belonging and Longing to Be
George Butterworth - Love Blows as the Wind Blows
Béla Bartók - String Quartet No.4
Presented by Melbourne Recital Centre and Penny Quartet
