Steve Elphick is an ARIA award-winning bassist who has earnt a reputation for excellence by recording and touring extensively around the world, and performing with jazz luminaries such as Roger Frampton and Mark Simmons.

Harry Sutherland is a celebrated young pianist who has already been awarded the James Morrison Scholarship at the Generations in Jazz Festival, his work recorded at ABC Jazz for Jazztrack. In a chance happening, this trio performed together for SIMA last year.

The special combination of artists and unique trombone, bass and piano instrumentation produced beautifully expressive music, dynamic group interplay and breath-taking improvisations. Performing all Australian jazz repertoire, we are thrilled to present these artists is a rarely heard trio setting. The World According to James, formed in 1992, has featured at numerous Festivals both internationally and nationally, including at the Berlin Jazz Festival. Of their three critically acclaimed albums, one was nominated for an ARIA award and another won AIR’s “Best Jazz Album Award” in 2010.
