Event Details

This TSO concert features a new Australian work by composer Melody Eötvös.

The Grieg Piano Concerto is a work that has never been out of favour ever since its triumphant première in 1869. In fact, it formed part of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra’s very first concert back in 1948. Making his TSO debut as soloist in this perennial favourite is Javier Perianes, acclaimed by the international press for his “impeccable technique”, “breezy virtuosity” and “poetic brilliance”.

Every bit as celebrated as Grieg’s Piano Concerto is Brahms’s Symphony No 2, a work which has been described as “all rippling streams, blue sky, sunshine and cool green shadows”. Idyllic and pastoral, the Symphony No 2 is one of Brahms’s loveliest creations.

Featured non-Australian music: Grieg, Brahms
