Event Details
A surprising number of historical figures have written music or poems in their spare time. In this concert we will present a sample of works, including settings of the poetry of Mary Queen of Scots, translated into German and set by Robert Schumann; songs by the first Premier of SA, BT Finniss; SA Governor, Sir William Robinson; Colonial Secretary of SA, Robert Gouger; and three songs with words by Matthew Flinders, his own ‘My Evening Song’, a new setting of ‘Trim’s Epitaph’ by Michael Dooley, and a mini-cantata by Gillian Dooley titled ‘The Pelican Lagoon’, based on Flinders’ account of his visit to Kangaroo Island in 1802.
Featured non-Australian music: Schumann's Mary Stuart songs, plus French and Scottish 18th century music.
