Event Details
For our second concert of 2015, Sydney Antiphony presents works by composers spanning 500 years, all exploring the inescapable human truth: the transience of our existence. At its centre, the concert features John Sheppard's masterful Media Vita ('In the midst of life we are in death'), a work groundbreaking in its length, structure and expressive power. Alongside this are two Australian premieres: Michael Finnissy's Seven Sacred Motets, a daring set of Marian antiphons with exquisite text and florid lines, and Sir James MacMillan's Invocation, based on the beautiful poetry of Pope John Paul II. The concert will also feature Australian composer Brooke Shelley’s darkly beautiful Ave Maris Stella, as well as other Renaissance works including Byrd’s legendary and expressive motet, Ne Irascaris Domine. Join us for beautiful music in the Monte Sant' Angelo Mercy College Chapel on Miller Street in North Sydney at 4pm on Sunday 12th July.
Featured non-Australian music: WILLIAM BYRD Ne Irascaris Domine; MICHAEL FINNISSY Seven Sacred Motets; SIR JAMES MACMILLAN Invocation; JOHN SHEPPARD In Pace; JOHN SHEPPARD Media Vita
