Event Details
From folk to classical to contemporary improvisation, Pekka Kuusisto has the imagination to make thrilling music in any style. A standout musician from Finland, a place which seems to have more than its fair share of musical talent, Kuusisto’s exuberant style has made him a sought-after soloist around the world.
Andrew Ford's new work for the ACO will start the program, followed by Bach’s famous third Brandenburg Concerto, one of the most scintillating works in the canon, baroque perpetual motion for three trios of soloists. Also in the program is a suite of life-affirming folk tunes from Finland, Sketches from Folkscenes for the ACO and the harmonium by the Finnish composer/arranger/folk musician Timo Alakotila and an arrangement for string orchestra of Sibelius's Voces intimae string quartet by Kuusisto.
Featured non-Australian music: Bach, Alakotila, Sibelius (arr. Kuusisto)
