Event Details
Join us for a preconcert talk as Tony and Sandy, two of Australia's most respected jazz musicians in the Australian jazz scene reflect on their lives and careers in jazz.
Due to the success of last year's performance, we had to invite Tony Gorman and Bobby Singh back to SIMA for another night of exceptional music. Triple ARIA award-winning artist Tony Gorman's 'meditative clarinet is sparse, dreamy, immaculate, drifting music with great power' (limelight magazine). Tony's infintely nuanced clarinet playing is pensive. Accompanied by tabla wizard Bobby Singh, this duo was described by SMH as "intimate, like music being whispered in your ear, or like a confession from a best friend". The second half of this concert features the Sandy Evans Trio with Bobby Singh- an ensemble who redefine the fusion of jazz and Indian music with thrilling dialogue, breath-taking improvisations and stunning percussion solos.
Performers: Sandy Evans (saxophone) Tony Gorman (clarinet) Bobby Singh (Tabla) Brett Hirst (bass) Toby Hall (drums)
