Event Details

Don’t miss this fun night of Christmas festivities as we wind down the year with 2 of JG’s favourite bands and the epic JG Retrospect Orchestra playing newly arranged tunes from the JG Records catalogue!  Celebrate a great 2015 and the end of our year’s successful program, and then get excited about the new year as we launch the Featured Artists 2015 Compilation Album and the 2016 Jazzgroove Summer Festival program!

8:00 We Had To Get Ollie

First we’ll start with Tim Firth’s band We Had To Get Ollie who claim “Ollie Thorpe is the 4th best guitarist in Australia*, and he is ‘really good at gigs.’ He’s so good at gigs that when we were asked to do this gig and the best guitarist in Australia is off doing gigs for actual money, and the 2nd best guitarist in Australia lives in Melbourne and is therefore too good for us, and the third best guitarist in Australia is already on the gig… well… ‘We Had To Get Ollie.’

*(Ollie is actually the equal 4th best guitarist in Australia, under 35, in 2014, according to 3 old guys).”

Featuring: Tim Firth: drums, Peter Koopman: guitar, Tom Botting: bass, and Ollie Thorpe: guitar

9:00 Dalai Farmers

Then the Dalai Farmers return to JG exploring the perfect balance between Buddhism and farming activities performing tunes guaranteed to get you and your partner swinging like a monk in a monastery. The music will range between bolero to that cool cool west coast jazz. Who knows what is possible with Eastern traditions and Western agricultural practices.

Featuring: Chris O’Dea – Saxophone and Clarinet, Eamon Dilworth – Trumpet, Sam Dobson – Bass, Finn Ryan – Drums

10:00 The JG Retrospect Orchestra

Finally, hitting the stage will be The Jazzgroove Retrospect Orchestra – comprising the best emerging and established artists involved with JG over the past 18 years.  Tonight, the band will play the hits from the Jazzgroove Records back catalogue, including new arrangements of music by Gerard Masters, Matt Keegan, Jeremy Rose, Steve Barry and Andy Fiddes, among others.  Not to be missed.

Featuring:

Saxophones – Jeremy Rose, Evan Harris, James Loughnan, Michael Avgenicos, Steve Fitzmaurice
Trumpets – Andy Fiddes, Simon Ferenci, Ellen Kirkwood, Paul Meo
